What is an unmeasured tariff?

Understanding Unmeasured Tariffs

Unmeasured tariffs are often used by Wholesalers for supplies where metering isn't possible. These tariffs calculate your volumetric charges based on the Rateable Value associated with your premises.

Accuracy of Unmeasured Tariffs

Unmeasured or Rateable Value tariffs may not always accurately reflect your water usage, especially if your consumption changes. If you believe the charges are inaccurate, we can ask the Wholesaler, with your agreement, to attempt fitting a meter or changing their estimate to a more accurate assessed tariff.

Please note that outcomes aren't guaranteed, and the Wholesaler may charge for the service.

Identifying Your Tariff

To determine your tariff, check the Customer Portal for a linked meter. If there's no meter, refer to your latest bill to identify the unmetered tariff. If your bill is calculated on an unmeasured tariff, you will see the word Unmeasured under the 'Your Charges' section of your bill, along with the Annual Volume Rate in cubic meters.

Can I request a review?

The most effective way for the Wholesaler to assess your water usage is by installing a water meter. For more information and to request a meter, complete the application form. We will refer your request to the Wholesaler.

If the Wholesaler has confirmed that a meter cannot be installed, you can apply instead for an assessed tariff, a more accurate estimated tariff based on information you provide about your business activities.

Visit our Customer Portal to apply.  We will refer your request to the Wholesaler.

Even if you don’t get a meter installed, you can challenge your business rate valuation if it is inaccurate. To check and challenge them go to: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/check-and-challenge-your-business-rates-valuation-step-by-step
